Patrick Adams [1950]

Patrick Adams

Patrick Adams more than deserves his place in the Heavy Vibes Hall of Fame. His cult status is obvious since 1975, when 'Atmosphere Strutt', his early excursion into heavy synthezied music, with his (then) trademark synth sounds saw the world.
Before this, he had already produced two albums with Black Ivory, a group which Leroy Burgess used to front.

From 1974 to 1982 he worked quite frequently with Greg Carmichael, collaborating on successful projects such as Inner Life's 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' and Fonda Rae's 'Touch Me '. During the disco era he formed studio groups like Phreek [Weekend], [Keep On Jumpin'], . . . .

Whereas most people who worked for the dance scene, also deejayed, Patrick did not. He is a writer/producer/arranger, like for example Vince Montana Jr His records were remixed by the likes of Larry Levan, Shep Pettibone, Paul Simpson and Francois Kevorkian.
Heavy Vibes crowns Patrick Adams King of the Mini Moog, an instrument that reminds me of early Lee Perry tracks.

Patrick Adams reflects on his groove: "It's impossible to say what a rich environment I grew up in musically: Motown was cranking it out every week, Stax was [too], Chicago, Sly Stone...I had every CTI album, and The Beatles, [the group] Chicago, Bacharach/David." "In The Bush" was a hard dance song, but it came from a meticulously crafted album that showed off Adams' serious gift for classical string arranging [which includes the Barry Whiteish "Summer Love," and in the more European but still extremely street "Keep On Jumpin'," covered two times and a worldwide hit twice over in the same six-month stretch of 1996]. "In the best records," Adams says, "every time you hear it, you hear something you didn't hear before. I like layering...I'll put in things [that will] keep you listening forever." Brian Chin
